Metro Shutdown Planned At Yellow, Blue Line Stations For Presidents Day Weekend

Metro will shut down train service at some stations Presidents Day weekend and provide free shuttle service.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Yellow and Blue Line stations will be closed Presidents Day weekend south of the Reagan National Airport station. Single tracking is planned between a several Orange and Red Line stations.

During the weekend shutdown from Feb. 19 to 21, there will be no Blue Line service between Franconia-Springfield and Reagan National Airport. Yellow Line service will not be provided between Huntington and Reagan National Airport. Affected stations include Braddock Road, King Street-Old Town, Eisenhower Avenue, Huntington, Van Dorn Street, and Franconia-Springfield. The shutdown is attributed to Potomac Yard Metro station construction and radio cable installation.

Free shuttle buses will be provided. On the Blue Line, there will be an express shuttle between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon. A local shuttle between Franconia-Springfield and Crystal City will stop at the closed Blue Line stations. On the Yellow Line, there will be an express shuttle between Huntington and Pentagon. A local shuttle between Huntington and Crystal City will serve the closed Yellow Line stations.

Riders are asked to not exit shuttles at Reagan National Airport unless the airport is their destination. Riders continuing their trip can exit at Crystal City.

On the Orange Line, trains will single track between Vienna and West Falls Church due to rail replacement. Orange Line trains will run every 24 minutes.

On the Red Line, trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights Saturday and Sunday as well as after 10 p.m. Monday. On Saturday and Sunday, trains will run every 18 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, with additional trains every nine minutes between Farragut North and Glenmont. On Monday, trains will run every 12 minutes until 10 p.m., then every 18 minutes until closing.

Metro's hours on Presidents Day weekend include 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, 7 a.m. to midnight Sunday, and 5 a.m. to midnight Monday. There will be normal service on the Silver and Green Lines with trains every 24 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively.
