Winter Weather: How Much Snow Did Kingstowne Area Get This Week
This week's snow accumulation exceeds the total accumulation last winter in DC, according to early National Weather Service totals.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — The first full week of January brought two winter storms to the region, the first of which caused power outages, hazardous road conditions and closures. Monday's storm was more significant than the few inches that fell overnight into Friday, but both combined exceed last winter season's total snowfall.
Monday's storm alone brought 11.8 inches to the Franconia SSE area, according to a National Weather Service estimate. NWS trained spotters also recorded 10 inches in the Franconia SSW area and Rose Hill. Friday's storm was less significant but still brought 2.8 inches to Rose Hill ENE and Franconia 1 SSE, as well as 2.3 inches to Franconia 1 SSW.
Monday's snowfall (with or without Friday's snowfall) outpaces the 5.4 inches of total accumulation during the 2020-2021 winter season in Washington, DC. The last time DC had this much monthly snow was 11.5 inches in January 2019. That can be credited to a Jan. 14 2019 snowstorm that brought between a varying 6 to 12 inches in the DC region, according to the Washington Post.
