Kevin, The Dog Shot At A VRE Commuter Lot In 2021, Finally Found A New Home This Week

In April 2021, someone shot a dog at the Manassas Park VRE parking lot. The dog, which medical staff named Kevin, underwent multiple surgeries. His right hind leg was amputated, and medical staff removed a bullet from his jaw.

MANASSAS, VA — In April 2021, Kevin the dog was shot and left for dead in a commuter parking lot. This week, Kevin was adopted from the City of Manassas's animal shelter.

On April 26, 2021, Kevin was abandoned outside the Manassas Park VRE station. Someone fired six shots at him, striking him multiple times, police said at the time.

Afterwards, Kevin followed the shooter back to a black SUV, authorities said. The SUV drove away, leaving Kevin behind.

Kevin received treatment at the MedVet Animal Hospital in Manassas after the shooting. Bullets left entry and exit wounds in his shoulder, another bullet was lodged in his jaw, and another round mangled one hind leg beyond repair.

Surgeries at MedVet were successful. Doctors amputated Kevin's right hind leg, removed the bullet from his jaw, and stitched up his shoulder.

"The City of Manassas Animal Shelter is thrilled that Kev has picked out his forever family. All of us here have been honored to be able to love and care for him during his stay," Kimberly Wieland, who works for the animal shelter, told Patch. "While we will be sorry to have him leave, we look forward to receiving many happy updates and visits with Kev.”

The Manassas Park police department has not announced any arrests or charges in connection with Kevin's shooting. Anyone who could help identify Kevin's shooter or former owner can contact the Manassas Park Police Department at 703-361-1136.
