Bike To Work Day In Prince William, Manassas Encourages Biking As Commuting Option

MANASSAS, VA — As the weather warms up, more people may be trading in commutes by car to bike. The DC region's 22nd annual Bike to Work Day will encourage local commuters to bike and score some freebies along the way on Friday, May 19.

The annual event held by the Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association features bike stops around the region with giveaways, food, and beverages. In addition, the first 15,000 people to register for Bike to Work Day get a free T-shirt, and all registered participants are entered to win a free bike.

The event promotes biking as a low-cost, environmentally-friendly commuting option. DC area commuters who are returning to in-person or remote working will notice congestion on the roads as driving continues to be a popular commuting option.

"Bike to Work Day brings together our local communities while promoting a healthy, fun commuting alternative that helps reduce traffic congestion on roadways that are getting crowded once again," said Nicholas Ramfos, director of Commuter Connections.

Over 100 pit stops will be held around the DC region, including several in Manassas and Prince William County:

• City of Manassas – VRE Station, (Train Depot side adjacent to track, near Battle St.) 9431 West St., Manassas, VA 20110, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  City of Manassas Park – VRE Station, 9300 Manassas Dr., Manassas Park, VA 20111, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
• Dumfries at Simpson Community Center, Simpson Community Center, 17757 Main Street, Dumfries, VA 22026, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Rd., Manassas, VA 20112, 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Manassas – George Mason University, Freedom Center Blvd. & University Blvd., Manassas, Virginia 20110 (southwest corner of the Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center), 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Rippon Landing VRE Station, 15511 Farm Creek Dr., Woodbridge, Virginia 22191, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
• Woodbridge – Chinn Center, 100 meters south of Troupe St. & Chinn Park Dr., Woodbridge, VA 22192 (near the Prince William Pkwy. bike trail), 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
• Woodbridge - Tackett's Mill, park & ride lot, Tackett’s Mill Dr & Minnieville Rd., Woodbridge, VA 22192, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
• Woodbridge - VRE Station, 1040 Express Way, Woodbridge, VA 22191, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
