Clear the Shelters is an annual effort to help get pets adopted by waiving adoption fees at Prince William County Animal Services.

MANASSAS, VA — Prince William County Animal Services and Prince William SPCA are hoping to find more pets homes during the annual Clear the Shelters pet adoption events.

Clear the Shelters will be held from Friday, Aug. 22 to Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Prince William County Animal Services Center 14807 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA. During Clear the Shelters, pet adoption fees will be waived. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Since 2015, Clear the Shelters, has been a national initiative helping nearly 1.2 million pets find homes and raising more than $5 million for animal shelters and rescues. NBC and Telemundo-owned and affiliated stations partner with local animal shelters and rescues on the campaign. Prince William County's event has resulted in hundreds of adoptions over a decade.

"Bringing awareness to the importance of pet adoptions encourages everyone to consider a shelter animal before buying from a breeder, pet store, or online post," said Melissa Korzuch, president of the Prince William SPCA. "The end of summer is often an ideal time to adopt. Vacations are over, kids are heading back to school, and empty nesters are looking for a new companion to enjoy the fall season. Plus, the Center is filled to the brim with so many amazing animals looking for their forever homes."

"We are honored to partner with Prince William SPCA to facilitate this extraordinary event," added Anthony Cleveland, division chief of the Prince William County Animal Services Bureau. "By sponsoring adoption fees, we hope to eliminate barriers for families eager to open their hearts and homes. While adoption fees are only one small part of pet ownership, this initiative not only supports our mission but fosters a community spirit of compassion and generosity."

All pets adopted from the shelter receive microchips as part of the Prince William SPCA’s “Friends of the Shelter” program. The campaign does not cover spay/neuter fees for unaltered pets. For those not adopting, donations are being collected for the Prince William SPCA’s "Friends of the Shelter" program, which helps the shelter with microchips, veterinary equipment, rabies vaccines, supplies and sponsoring adoption fees to address overcrowding and lower euthanasia rates. Donations can be made at pwspca.org/donate or through Venmo @pwspca.

Available pets from the animal shelter can be viewed online.
