Construction Begins on LA Fitness, Petco in Manassas

Looking from Liberia Avenue, it's hard to see the large tattered and stripped parcel in the Davis Ford Crossing shopping center that will be the site of another gym on the busy thoroughfare.

The fitness club giant opened its first location in 1984 in Southern California and has been advancing east for nearly 30 years.

The Manassas location will be the second in the Prince William County area. There is an L.A. Fitness in Woodbridge, according to the company's website.

An opening date for the Manassas location isn't yet available.

At the corner of the shopping center near Market Street and Wellington Road, a space once home to several small businesses, is now gutted in preparation for a new Petco.

The pet-supply franchise is expected to open at the end of the year. PetValu, a boutique pet store, opened less than a year ago across Wellington Road from the Petco site.
