Detention Center Officer Struck With Mop, Inmate Charged: PWCPD

According to the Prince William County Police Department, the detention center officer suffered minor injuries.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — An inmate is facing new charges following accusations he threw a mop Thursday at a detention center officer in Manassas.

James Jefferson Marshall, 34, of Woodbridge has been charged with assault and battery.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, he is an inmate at the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center on Lee Avenue.

Police said shortly after 3 a.m. they responded to an assault on a staff member at the detention center.

Officers said an investigation revealed that Marshall was cleaning a room inside the facility, when he threw a mop at an ADC officer, striking the officer.

Police said Marshall remains incarcerated at the detention center.
