Fatal Shooting In Manassas Area Prompts Man's Prison Sentence

A man faces prison time and supervised release for a homicide following an altercation in the Manassas area.

MANASSAS, VA — A homicide resulting from an altercation in Manassas has led to a prison sentence for the suspect, according to the Prince William County Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney.

Zahir Abdul-Rahman Mujahid, 39, had pleaded guilty in March to charges tied to the killing of Horace Roy Johnson III in November 2024. On Thursday, a judge in Prince William County court sentenced Mujahid to 40 years in prison, with 19 years and four months suspended. Upon release, he will have 25 years of supervised probation.

"We are incredibly grateful for the hard work of the Detective and Police Officers involved in this cooperation and for the cooperation of good people that helped us to secure a conviction in this case," said Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth in a statement. "Justice is only possible when people are willing to come forward and speak the truth. The victim of this senseless murder, known as 'Mann' to his family and friends, will be missed terribly by those who loved him."

On Nov. 23, 2024, Prince William County Police had responded to a shooting at Stream Walk Lane near Balls Ford Road in the Bull Run area of Manassas. Officers found a man with gunshot wounds and shell casings near him. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police investigation found an altercation with multiple people, including Mujahid occurred. Police believe Mujahid took a gun out of his waistband after the altercation and shot the victim multiple times. Police found distinctive red glasses belonging to Mujahid at the scene. Multiple witness interviews and arrest warrants further tied Mujahid to the fatal shooting.
