Fatal Shooting In Manassas Parking Lot Prompts 22-Year Prison Sentence

A Manassas man was sentenced for the fatal shooting of his wife's ex in a grocery store parking lot, according to prosecutors.

MANASSAS, VA — A Manassas man was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the killing of his wife's ex-boyfriend in a Food Lion parking lot.

Mauricio Antonio Mayorga, 48, had been found guilty of second-degree murder in July after pleading guilty. On Thursday, a judge sentenced him in Prince William County court.

The shooting happened on March 20, 2023 in the Food Lion parking lot at 6306 Hoadly Road in the Manassas area of Prince William County. According to the Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney, police had responded to a 911 caller who was crying and said she set up a meeting around 12:40 a.m. with herself and her ex-boyfriend, Ricardo Del Cid, 37, of Manassas. Police found Del Cid in a vehicle with gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Security footage showed Mayorga arrived and approach Del Cid's car and fire multiple gunshots at him. An investigation revealed the 911 caller was married to Mayorga.

"Our community lost a valuable member to senseless gun violence," said Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth in a statement. "Excellent police work allowed us to resolve this case without putting the victims' families through a trial. Mr. Mayorga accepted responsibility for his actions by entering a guilty plea to the second-degree murder charge."
