Flood Warning Issued For Loudoun, Prince William Due To Ida

The National Weather Service sent out a flood warning for the City of Manassas, Prince William County, and Loudoun County on Wednesday.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — At 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Prince William County, the City of Manassas, the City of Manassas Park, parts of southeastern Loudoun County, and parts of Fairfax County. The warning has been extended until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Officials said flooding will be seen in a variety of areas in northern Virginia, including Manassas, Haymarket, Bull Run, Dulles International Airport, Ashburn, and Sterling. The flood warning was issued after the remnants of Tropical Depression Ida brought thunderstorms across the area overnight.

Heavy thunderstorms are expected to continue through the Washington, D.C. area Wednesday morning, bringing localized flash flooding, according to NWS.

Additional thunderstorms are predicted for the afternoon and evening, bringing rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches and as much as 6 inches in some areas.

With heavy rains falling in such a short period of time, the likelihood flooded streets, small streams and creeks increases. In addition, high winds accompanying thunderstorms could lead to downed trees and power lines in some areas, creating power outages and blocked roads.
