T-Ball Coach Pleads Guilty to Exposing Himself to Player

Dennis Reed Dyer, of Manassas Park, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of indecent liberties with a child in 1978 incident.

A Manassas Park man pleaded guilty Thursday to exposing himself to a young child when he was a T-ball coach 35 years ago.

Dennis Reed Dyer, 59, pleaded guilty in Prince William County Circuit Court to one count of indecent liberties. The prosecution dropped a separate charge of indecent liberties as part of a plea agreement. Judge Richard Potter accepted the plea.

The court had rejected a previous plea by Dyer.

Prince William County Police arrested Dyer in April 2012, accusing him of molesting two boys sometime between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 1978. The victim reported the abuse in 2007, but police did not conduct a thorough investigation until later, prosecutors said. At that point, a second person made a complaint.

The boys were players on Dyer's T-ball team, and the former coach was acquainted with the victim's family at the time of the abuse. In court Thursday, prosecutors said that Dyer had come up to the victim's bedroom at night, taken advantage of the situation, then told the boy it was fine because he was a friend of the family.
