Fugitive In Sexual Assault Of Manassas 8-Year-Old Found: Police
A man authorities said fled the country after sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy in Manassas has been brought back to face charges.
MANASSAS, VA — A man authorities said fled to El Salvador six years ago after sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy has been brought back to Prince William County to face criminal charges.
Nelson Romero-Quijada, 54, of the 7900 block of Community Drive in Manassas was extradited to Prince William County and arrested on July 11, police said. He is charged with sodomy and crimes against nature; he is being held without bond.
On June 25, the suspect was taken into custody in El Salvador in a coordinated effort with the Department of Justice.

On August 13, 2018, detectives from the Special Victim’s Unit began to investigate a sexual assault that occurred at a residence located in the 7900 block of Community Drive in Manassas. Investigators said Romero-Quijada, an acquaintance, sexually assaulted the victim, an 8-year-old boy at the time, between October 2014 and July 2016.
The victim told a family member about the assaults in August 2018, and Prince William County Police were then contacted. Detectives from the Special Victim’s Unit then began to investigate.

In September 2018, Romero-Quijada was identified as the suspect in the assault and arrest warrants were obtained, but police were told he had fled the country.
