Last Chance: Enter July 4 Apple Pie Baking Contest

Today is the last day to enter the July 4 Apple Pie Baking Contest, hosted by Historic Manassas Inc.

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. by the staff at the Old Town Manassas Visitors Center at 9431 West St. The application can also be faxed to 703-361-6942  A copy of the application is included with this article.

Staff will assign contestants and their pies a time slot between 4 and 6 p.m. on July 4 to discuss their pies and present a copy of the recipes to the judges.  Winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m. at the Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.

First prize is a $100 gift card. Second prize is $75 gift card and third is a $50 gift card.

Here are the rules for the contest:

• Pies only, no tarts or crisps 
• No store bought pies, pastry shells or fillings 
• Pies must be at room temperature at the time of the contest
  
• Pies must be baked in an aluminum pie plate suitable for a 9 inch pie 
• Only 1 pie per contestant can be entered. 
• Pie recipes must  be the creation or a favorite of the contestant 
• A printed copy of the recipes along with the contestant's name, address and phone number must be presented with the pie.
