Lightening Strike Causes Fire at Prince William County Home

Thursday's thunderstorms caused a fire at a Nokesville home.

A lightening strike directly to a Nokesville home started a fire and ultimately caused $100,000 in damages to the residence, but no injury or loss of life. 

It happened Thursday afternoon at 4:15 at a colonial-style home at 9706 Greenwich Rd, Prince William County Fire and Rescue reports show. 

 Firefighters said the lightening caused extensive fire and smoke damage and $80,000 to $100,000 in damages.

Rural water supply operations were required to supply fire suppression units consisting of multiple tanker response and a full fire response complement, according to a release issued Friday by the fire agency.  

No one was home at the time of the fire. The tenant was displaced, but didn't require Red Cross assistance.

The cause of the fire was determined as natural causes.
