The Old Town Manassas parking garage will be closed to motor traffic on July 4, Manassas officials said.
The garage closing on Independence Day is nothing new, city officials said. When the garaged opened in 2008, it was decided that it would be closed on the holiday to allow for pedestrian safety, Manassas City spokeswoman Patty Prince said.
"Many people who attend watch the fireworks from the grounds of the museum and that many cars leaving the parking garage before, during and after the fireworks would cause a safety issue for those crossing the streets to see the fireworks," she said.
There will be parking in other areas of Old Town on July 4.
