Extended Road Closure Begins In Manassas For Stream Restoration Project
A road closure is in place amid a project that includes adding more stormwater capacity, according to the City of Manassas.

MANASSAS, VA — An extended road closure began Monday as part of a stream restoration project in Manassas.
According to the City of Manassas, Godwin Drive is closed between Cedar Ridge Drive and Winged Elm Circle between June 16 and Aug. 12. Traffic is being detoured via Clover Hill Road and Hastings Drive.
The road closure is due to the Round Elementary Stream Restoration and Pond Retrofit. The city's project will eestore about 1,200 linear feet of eroded stream banks on two tributaries of the Cannon Branch stream behind Round Elementary School. The pond portion of the project includes pond maintenance and a culvert replacement under Godwin Drive. The renovated pond will boost pollution removal and maintain flood control through dredging and new plantings. The culvert replacement will provide additional capacity for stormwater, which addresses excess stormwater in the Godwin Drive culvert during larger storm events.
