Prince William County Democrats Issue Call To Caucus For Gainesville Supervisor
The Prince William County Democratic Committee announced a call to caucus for the upcoming special election for the Board of Supervisors.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Following the recent death of Gainesville District Supervisor Bob Weir, the Prince William County Democratic Committee on Friday morning announced a call to caucus for the upcoming special election for the Board of County Supervisors.
The committee will hold an unassembled caucus to elect its nominee for the Prince William Board of County Supervisors for the Gainesville Magisterial District from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 10.
Weir, 62, died from metastatic colon cancer on July 20. He had served as the Gainesville District supervisor since a February 2023 special election, representing the Gainesville and Haymarket as a Republican on the Prince William Board of Supervisors. A Haymarket resident, he previously served on the Haymarket Town Council, and Haymarket Planning Commission.

Weir is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diane, and their three children — Sam, Michael and Megan.
The Prince William County Office of Elections confirmed a special election for Gainesville District supervisor will be held on Nov. 4, the same day as the general election. Only voters in the Gainesville District will be able to vote in the special election.

Any voter who adheres to the values of the Democratic Party, is registered to vote in the Gainesville Magisterial District, and who meets the participation requirements outlined in the call to caucus will be eligible to vote at any of the caucus locations.
Each person seeking to become the Democratic Party nominee for supervisor for the Gainesville Magisterial District must file with Samuel Chisolm, chairman of the Prince William County Democratic Committee, or a designated representative of the committee by Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m., according to a news release.
