Prince William County Landfill To Open On Sundays Beginning In 2026
Prince William County residents will see expanded hours at the county landfill after supervisors approved funding in the county budget.

Beginning Jan. 3, 2026, Prince William County residents will benefit from an important service enhancement at the County Landfill and Compost Facility. Both facilities will be open seven days a week, including new Sunday hours.
This change, adopted as part of the FY2026 Budget by the Board of County Supervisors, reflects the county’s commitment to better serving residential customers by increasing weekend access and providing more flexibility for household disposal needs.

“Adding Sunday hours is something many residents have requested, and we’re pleased to deliver on that priority, thanks to the support from the Board of County Supervisors,” said Khattab Shammout, Director of Public Works. “The shift to a seven-day schedule provides greater flexibility for residents, especially those who rely on weekend access to manage household waste and yard debris.”

The implementation date of Jan. 3, 2026, provides essential time to put the necessary staffing adjustments in place at the Landfill and Compost Facility, as well as to provide public outreach to the community. It also provides the needed time for commercial hauling companies to redesign collection routes and notify their customers of changes to collection schedules.
Residents and haulers are encouraged to visit www.pwcva.gov/disposal or call 703-792-4670 for more information. Public notices and onsite signage will be posted well in advance of the change.
