Prince William County Supervisor Special Election 2025: Stewart Projected To Win

GAINESVILLE, VA — In the special election for Gainesville District supervisor Tuesday, Democrat George Stewart is the projected winner over Republican Patrick Harders with all precincts in, according to unofficial election results.

Gainesville District voters in western Prince William County voted in a special election for Gainesville District supervisor after the death of Republican Supervisor Bob Weir. A win for Stewart would flip the Board of County Supervisors seat, leaving Democrats with a 6-2 majority.

With all 14 precincts reporting, Stewart has 50.47 percent of votes, and Harders has 48.77 percent. Results are unofficial until certified by the State Board of Elections.

Stewart is a Navy veteran and financial consultant who attributed his campaign to "concerns over the unchecked spread of data centers across western Prince William County." Other campaign priorities included responsible growth, environmental protection, attainable housing to maintain affordability and safe communities through supports like expanded mental health programs, youth programs and addressing food insecurity.

Harders, owner of a lighting design small business, has been in the Gainesville District for more than 20 years. The Republican outlined campaign priorities like lower taxes, responsible growth, and protecting the community from unchecked data center sprawl.

Other items on the ballot for Prince William County voters were governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general and Virginia House of Delegates races. The Town of Occoquan had a special election for a Town Council seat.
