Rape Of 85-Year-Old Woman At Assisted Living Home Leads To Charges

Prince William County Police say a man entered a woman's assisted living room and sexually assaulted her.

MANASSAS, VA — A man is facing charges tied to a rape of a resident at an assisted living home in the Manassas area last Friday, Prince William County Police say.

Police had responded to a sexual assault report around 6:50 a.m. Friday to The Fairmont by Barclay House at 9852 Fairmont Ave. in Manassas.

According to police, an unknown man entered the facility through an unsecured back door and entered the room of an 85-year-old resident. The man sexually assaulted the woman before employees intervened. Employees held the suspect until police arrived.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Benjamin Alex Dinarte, 32, of Manassas, was arrested and charged with rape, abduction, object sexual penetration and burglary. He is being held without bond.

The Fairmont by Barclay provided a statement to Patch in response to the incident. The assisted living facility is cooperating with the police investigation.

"We are shocked and heartbroken that a member of our independent living community was a victim of this appalling crime," said Camille Sy, general manager at The Fairmont by Barclay House. "We are committed to supporting them and their family and ask that their privacy be respected during this tragic ordeal. We are grateful for the courage of our staff in subduing the perpetrator and for the swift action and professionalism of local law enforcement."

FOX DC reported that in April 2018, Dinarte was convicted of sexual battery after he sexually assaulted a female employee working at a Manassas lingerie boutique. He is listed as a level one sexual offender in Virginia.
