Red Light Camera Enforcement To Begin At New Manassas Intersection
A warning period will precede the enforcement with citations at a new intersection in Manassas.

MANASSAS, VA — Drivers will soon encounter a new red light camera that can result in citations.
Manassas Police said the new red light camera is being set up at Liberia Avenue and Richmond Avenue. The city added the location "based on studies of violations and crashes at this location," according to police.
A 30-day warning period will begin on May 1. Enforcement will begin on June 1, which means citations will be issued for red light violations.

Police officers will review incidents and confirm that a violation did occur before a citation is issued to the vehicle's registered owner. Citations include a $50 fine that will not affect driver's license points.
Manassas City Council had approved an ordinance in December 2019 allowing red light camera enforcement. According to police, the goal of the camera enforcement is to encourage compliance with traffic laws and reduce crashes.

There are already red light camera locations at the intersections of Liberia Avenue and Centreville Road, Liberia Avenue and Euclid Avenue, Liberia Avenue and Signal Hill Road, and Center Street and Grant Avenue. Other potential locations identified for red light cameras are Liberia Avenue and Mathis Avenue, Godwin Drive and Wellington Road, Godwin Drive and Nokesville Road, Liberia Avenue and Prince William Parkway, and Sudley Road and Godwin Drive.
The city also has speed cameras enforcing active school crossing times at Round Elementary School, Metz Middle School and Dean Elementary School. Violations can lead to a $100 citation.
