PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — After the death of Gainesville District Supervisor Bob Weir, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors shared upcoming events to honor him. A special election has been set after a request by the Board of County Supervisors.

"His unexpected loss is a loss for all of us," said Board of County Supervisors Chair Deshundra Jefferson at Tuesday's board meeting. "It's going to be a tough day for us. It's going to be a tough week, tough months, and those are going to be some really hard shoes to fill."

Flowers and Weir's hat were placed in front of his seat at the Board of County Supervisors meeting. Weir, 62, died from metastatic colon cancer on July 20.

Weir had served as the Gainesville District supervisor since a February 2023 special election, representing the Gainesville and Haymarket as a Republican on the Prince William Board of Supervisors. A Haymarket resident, he previously served on the Haymarket Town Council, Haymarket Planning Commission, multiple advisory boards and community organizations. Weir is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diane, and their three children — Sam, Michael and Megan.

According to Jefferson, the Town of Haymarket will honor Weir with a proclamation on Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. The Prince William Board of County Supervisors is planning to have their own proclamation at their Sept. 9 meeting at 2 p.m. A celebration of life for Weir will be held Sept. 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Giuseppe's in Haymarket, which was Weir's go-to spot.
