Roem Out-Raises GOP Opponent Bill Woolf In Latest Campaign Filing

MANASSAS, VA — Democrat Danica Roem out-raised her GOP opponent Bill Woolf in the latest campaign filings. Roem and Woolf are both running to represent the newly drawn 30th state senate district.

In the latest report, Roem reported that her campaign raised $641,000 between July 1 and Aug. 31, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Woolf raised just over $265,000 in July and August, according to the finance report.

Roem's campaign received $416,895 in cash contributions of more than $100. She also received $38,688 in cash contributions of less than $100. In-kind contributions of more than $100 represented $184,321, while in-kind contributions of less than $100 consisted of $1,118.

  • $100,000 - Clean Virginia Fund
  • $100,000 - Sonjia Smith
  • $50,000 - Democracy PAC
  • $10,000 - Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus
  • $7,500 - Virginia Professional Fire Fighters COPE Fund

Roem's campaign reported $560,889 in expenses during July and August reporting period. She ended August with $315,561 in cash on hand, according to the finance reports.

In August and September, Woolf's campaign reported $164,680 in cash contributions of more than $100 and $2,155 in cash contributions of less than $100. The campaign also reported $98,822 in in-kind contributions.

Woolf's top five cash donors were:

  • $25,000 - Spirit of Virginia
  • $20,000 - Friends of Mark Obenshain
  • $20,000 - McDougle for Virginia
  • $20,000 - Friends of Tommy Norment
  • $15,000 - Friends of Dr. Todd Pillion

Woolf's campaign spent $141,302 in July and August. Woolf ended August with $133,578 in cash on hand.

Nov. 7's general election will be the first for the redrawn 30th State Senate district.

The first absentee ballots for the General Election will be mailed on Friday, Sept. 22, which is also when early voting begins. Early voting will continue through Nov. 4, which is three days before Election Day.

Roem currently represents the 13th district in the Virginia House of Delegates. She was the first openly transgender person to serve in the Virginia General Assembly.

Woolf is a former law enforcement officer who has worked with Anti-Trafficking International and the U.S. Department of Justice.

In an email on Tuesday, Roem noted that the Woolf's campaign has stepped up its spending in recent weeks.

"The Republicans are now fully engaged in our race. As of today, they're up on cable with a $28,541 ad buy for the week (Sept. 19-25)," Roem wrote. "They also launched their mail campaign at the end of July and the Governor subsequently donated $25,000 to their side. Not coincidentally, they just purchased a $25,005 block of radio advertising yesterday for ads that started running today."

On Tuesday morning, Woolf appeared at an event in Manassas with Governor Glenn Youngkin and Prince William County Supervisor Yesli Vega. Woolf addressed the crowd at the Hispanic Heritage Month event in Spanish, the governor followed him with a speech in English.

"This is an important moment for us," Youngkin said at the event. "It's a moment where we step back and realize elections have consequences. Who we elect matters."
