MANASSAS, VA — Prince William County could pursue another alternative to relieve Route 28 traffic after the cancellation of the Route 28 bypass project.

On Feb. 18, Supervisor Yesli Vega (R-Coles), whose district was affected by the proposed bypass, issued a directive to pursue an alternative. The directive calls for removing the Route 28 bypass from the county's mobility plan and add a widening of Route 28 from four to six lanes between the Manassas city and Fairfax County lines. To add the widening to the county's mobility plan and remove the bypass project, a comprehensive plan amendment would need to be approved.

The Board of County Supervisors had voted earlier in February to end the bypass project amid concerns about rising costs and inability to come to a resolution with neighboring Fairfax County.
