Prince William County spared from much of damage farther north

A powerful afternoon storm on Saturday carrying 60 to 70-mile per hour winds has knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of homes across Northern Virginia.
Prince William County residents were spared from much of the damage more northern neighbors face. About 2,684 residents across the county are without power, compared with 59,841 homes across Fairfax County, 16,227 in Loudoun County, 2,577 in Falls Church, 2,513 in Fairfax City and 3,425 in Alexandria, as of just after 5 p.m.
The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for the Northern Virginia area that expired Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
