Three-Car Accident Kills Woman, Family Dog

A Warrenton woman has been charged with driving under the influence, DUI-related aggravated involuntary manslaughter and maiming by DUI after a three-car accident claimed one human life this weekend.

Prince William County Police public information officer Jonathan Perok said that police responded to Dumfries Road (Route 234) and Brentsville Road—where the Prince William County Parkway south and east intersect—at 10:27 p.m. Saturday for a crash.

Perok said an investigation revealed Lori Love Shipe (also known as Lori Lynn Love), 52, of Warrenton was driving a 1999 Lexus RX300 northbound on Dumfries Road when she allegedly disregarded a red light and struck a 2008 Ford Focus occupied by a front passenger and a driver.

The Ford Focus had the green light and attempted to make a left turn from the Parkway east to Dumfries Road, police said. A third vehicle, a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta was hit by the Focus after the initial collision. The driver and sole occupant of the Jetta was hit because the driver was stopped at a red light and was waiting to make a left turn from the Prince William Parkway south to west. 

Shipe and the Jetta driver, a 33-year-old female from Manassas Park, were uninjured. The driver of the Ford Focus, identified as a 58-year-old Powhatan man was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the Focus, identified as Judith Ann Meyer, 57, of Powhatan, was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. 

Perok said a family dog in the Focus was found in the accident with severe injuries. Animal Control responded to the scene but the dog died from injuries while en route to an animal hospital, police said.

Perok said that Shipe “had been driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.” Speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
