Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Fairfax County South Of Beltway
A heavy storm system is expected to hit the area along Route 1, says the National Weather Service.

UPDATE (8 p.m. Friday) — The National Weather Service has extended the severe thunderstorm warning to 8:45 p.m. as the rain and lightning move through Fairfax County south of the Beltway and across the Potomac River.
The warning covers an area from Lake Ridge and Dale City in Prince William County to Mason Neck and Woodlawn along Route 1 in Fairfax County, extending to Fort Washington and Accokeek in Maryland. UPDATE (7:30 p.m. Friday) — The thunder and rain are moving west, with the National Weather Service issuing a severe thunderstorm warning for central Prince William County through 7:45 p.m. The warning covers the I-66 corridor, and Manassas, Dale City and Lake Ridge, as well as Nokesville and Manassas Park.

The warning also covers Fairfax City and other parts of south-central Fairfax County, including Clifton and Burke.
UPDATE (6:45 p.m. Friday) — A tornado warning issued for central Fauquier County and northwestern Prince William County has expired, but a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the area until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The warning covers the vicinity of Linton Hall, Gainesville and New Baltimore.

A thunderstorm hit the town of Haymarket in Prince William County, bringing heavy rain and lightning, radio station WTOP reported. The storm is reported to be moving east along Interstate 66 towards Gainesville and Route 29.

MANASSAS, VA — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for central Fauquier County and northwestern Prince William County, according to radio station WTOP. The warning is effective until 6:30 p.m.
The storm system is moving over Route 17, WTOP reported at 6:14 p.m. Friday. Patch will update this story as it develops.
