MANASSAS, VA — A potential trail alongside the Manassas line of Virginia Railway Express is being explored in Manassas and the surrounding areas.

The City of Manassas Park, the City of Manassas, and Prince William County have launched a feasibility study for a three-mile multi-use trail along the Manassas VRE Line. The proposed trail would run between downtown Manassas and the Bull Run Trail on the City of Manassas Park border with Fairfax County. It would be connected to the Manassas and Manassas Park VRE stations.

The project would be part of a larger effort to fill gaps in regional trail connections. According to the Manassas city government, the trail would connect Historic Downtown Manassas and Park Central in Manassas Park and green spaces like Mayfield Fort, Signal Hill Park, Blooms Park and the Bull Run Occoquan Trail.

The three-mile trail would be part of a larger project in the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority’s TransAction long-term plan. Following the three-mile trail, the second phase of the project is proposed to span 20 miles between Bull Run Trail in Fairfax County and Landmark in the City of Alexandria. The region already has a long-distance trail in the Washington & Old Dominion Trail between Loudoun County and Arlington County on the path of a former railroad.

There will be an open house on the proposed trail project on July 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Manassas Park City Hall, 100 Park Central Plaza, Manassas Park, VA. Spanish interpretation will be available.
