VA House 22nd District Election 2025: Guzmán Projected To Flip Seat
Former Democratic Del. Elizabeth Guzmán is the projected winner against incumbent Republican Ian Lovejoy in a competitive VA House race.

MANASSAS, VA — Former Democratic Del. Elizabeth Guzmán is projected to defeat Republican Del. Ian Lovejoy in Virginia's competitive 22nd House District race, according to unofficial results. That would be a gain for the Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates.
With all 18 precincts reporting, Guzmán leads with 55.79 percent to Lovejoy's 44.03 percent. Results are unofficial until certified by the State Board of Elections.
CASA in Action, a group that mobilized Black, Latino and immigrant voters, released a statement in support of Guzman's win.

"Throughout the campaign, Guzmán’s dedication to these crucial issues shone through in every action and statement," said CASA in Action’s director of Virginia organizing Eduardo Zelaya. "Her election victory is a testament to the community's endorsement of her vision for a brighter future."
In the 22nd District, Lovejoy sought re-election against former Democratic Del. Elizabeth Guzmán. The Virginia Public Access Project labels the district as competitive. It includes part of Prince William County outside the City of Manassas.

Lovejoy, a former Manassas City Council member and former president of the Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation, outlined campaign priorities like lowering the cost of living, supporting educational improvements, boosting public safety, preserving residential and rural areas, supporting the business environment, addressing traffic and supporting veterans.
Guzmán is a former state delegate who has shared campaign priorities like supporting workers, accountability in law enforcement, supporting public education and early childhood education, boosting public transportation and making road improvements, protecting the environment, regulating locations of data centers, protecting rural life, supporting pregnant women and reproductive rights, seeking gun reforms and supporting veterans.
All 100 House of Delegates seats are up for grabs in the Nov. 4, 2025 election. The Virginia House and Senate are both Democrat-controlled, while Gov. Glenn Youngkin is Republican. The new election will determine what parties will earn control of the Virginia House and governorship.

Other items on the ballot for Prince William County voters were governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general and other Virginia House of Delegates races. The Town of Occoquan had a special election for a Town Council seat, and Gainesville District voters voted in a special election for Gainesville District supervisor after the death of Supervisor Bob Weir.
