Enjoy Tea for Adults or Kids at Morrison House

Every third Saturday, the Grille at Morrison House offers a Story Time Tea for kids.

Tea time at Old Town restaurant The Grille at Morrison House was a recent highlight on blog City Eats DC.

Author Annalisa Burgos writes in the Family Style column about her experiences taking her almost two-year-old son to Halloween Spooky Tea last month, a spin off of Story Time Tea.

The traditional tea for kids is every third Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. when tea time for adults at the Morrison House “transforms into a kid-friendly event featuring crafts, read-aloud story time, dress-up and seasonal activities,” according to the author. There is a upcoming Christmas and Hanukkah tea on Dec. 15.

The Grille’s traditional afternoon tea service is every Saturday (except for the kids-focused third Saturday) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. complete with assorted Mighty Leaf teas and house-made scones and biscuits with cream and jams.

Tea sandwiches include cucumber and tomato on brioche with chive cream cheese, curried chicken salad on wheat bread and smoked salmon with chive créme fraîche on marble rye.

“If you’ve never 'done tea,' it’s not as stuffy as you may think. Sure, there’s a sense of decorum in this British pastime, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relax and enjoy yourself,” Burgos writes.
