The holiday season is here and that means Alexandria communities seek volunteers for many and different causes.
The Alexandria Patches are highlighting good causes seeking volunteers during this holiday season.

Who: The Reading Connection
What: Read Aloud to Children
Find out what's happening in Old Town Alexandriafor free with the latest updates from Patch.
When: Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Where: Read-Aloud programs are held in emergency and transitional housing shelters, domestic violence safehouses, and affordable housing community centers throughout Alexandria.
Why: Teams of volunteers spend an hour reading with kids and engaging them in conversation and related activities in the City of Alexandria. The goal of Read Aloud is to encourage children to spend more time reading and talking about books. Volunteers must be at least 18. Ages 55 and over welcome.
The Reading Connection is also seeking volunteers to help out at book stores during this holiday season to wrap gifts and raise money for its programs.
