Old Town Vs. Del Ray: 4th Annual Softball Battle Returns
A friendly competition between Old Town and Del Ray is planned to benefit the Alexandria Little League Scholarship Fund.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The battle of Del Ray vs. Old Town will head to the softball field next Thursday, May 26 for the fourth annual softball battle. The event at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park's little field benefits the Alexandria Little League Scholarship Fund.
In this friendly competition, the Del Ray Business Association and the Old Town Business Association face off in hopes of winning the John Porter Cup. In the three years the event was held, Old Town leads the series 2-1.
Managing the Old Town team is Trea Lamond of Chadwicks, while the Del Ray team is managed by Bill Blackburn of Homegrown Restaurant Group.

"We're going to bring the John Porter Cup back to Del Ray," said Blackburn in a news release.
Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson will throw out the first pitch at 6 p.m. to kick off the game, and Explanation Kids' Michelle Millben will sing the national anthem. Alexandria Sheriff Sean Casey, former Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and former Undersheriff Tim Gleason will officiate the game.

The game will be preceded by a Margarita Happy Hour this upcoming Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tequila & Taco, 540 John Carlyle Street. Lamond and Blackburn, the competing team managers, will be guest bartenders at the event. The team manager who makes the most margaritas will win the coin toss for the game.
The softball battle is sponsored by Port City Brewery. The location of the game is 426 E. Monroe Avenue, Alexandria, VA.
