ALEXANDRIA, VA — The alma mater of sprinter Noah Lyles will be cheering him on as he competes in the Tokyo Olympics.
Lyles, a 2016 graduate of the newly-renamed Alexandria City High School, will be participating in the 200m event at the Olympics. The 24-year-old had a world-leading time of 19.74 seconds in the 200m trail at trials.
Lyles had been seeking a spot on the U.S. Olympic team after missing it in 2016 by six-hundredths of a second. He went on to win two world championship gold medals in 2016 for the 200m and 4x100m. He most recently won two world championship world medals for the 200m and 4x100m relay in 2019. He and his brother, fellow elite sprinter Josephus Lyles, turned pro after graduating from Alexandria's high school and now live in Florida.
