Prevent Opioid Overdoses With Alexandria Training Session

The City of Alexandria is offering training Thursday in the use of Narcan to prevent opioid overdoses.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — You can learn how to spot and reverse an opioid overdose at a training session on Thursday, July 25, hosted by the City of Alexandria.

In partnership with the Chris Atwood Foundation, the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services is hosting free REVIVE! training sessions to teach any member of the public about opioids, how opioid overdoses happen, the risk factors for opioid overdoses, and how to respond to an opioid overdose emergency using Narcan/Naloxone.

The next session will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 2355 Mill Road.

If you or a loved one are prescribed opioid painkillers, or are taking opioids, you should take this training and have Narcan/Naloxone on hand.

Participants will receive a free medical kit and Narcan/Naloxone upon the completion of training. No RSVP or registration is required.

Training sessions are offered twice a month:

  • Every second Tuesday of the month, 10-11 a.m.
  • Every fourth Thursday of the month, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served. Other things to note:

  • No training Aug. 22. August evening training date is Aug. 29.
  • No training on Nov. 28 or Dec. 26.
  • Location: Room 140, 2355 Mill Road, Alexandria.
