Student Sexual Assaults Lead To Charges For Instructional Assistant From Alexandria

FRANCONIA, VA — A man from Alexandria who worked at a Fairfax County high school is facing charges tied to sex crimes with student victims, Fairfax County Police say.

Child Protective Services had been notified on Sept. 25 of an Edison High School teacher inappropriately touching two students on separate occasions. An investigation by detectives determined Derrick Burroughs, 40, of Alexandria, sexually assaulted two students.

Burroughs has been an instructional assistant since 2023 at Edison High School. He was put on administrative leave when the school learned of the allegations and remains suspended.

Fairfax County Police

On Tuesday, Burroughs was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties by custodian. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was released on a $3,000 bond.
