RESTON, VA — Motorists traveling southbound on Reston Parkway can expect the lefthand lane on the bridge over the Dulles Toll Road to remain closed until December, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

On July 10, around 12:30 p.m., a truck traveling southbound on the parkway toward the eastbound entrance ramp to the Toll Road struck the bridge. This damaged deck beams and other elements. The crash also forced the closure of the left lane of southbound Reston Parkway at the Dulles Toll Road.

"Work will be done during nighttime hours to coincide with the lowest traffic volumes and the completion and change back to the original traffic configuration is expected in early December," said Alex Liggitt, communications manager for VDOT's Northern District.

VDOT work crews will make repairs to the bridge Sundays through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., and 7 p.m.to 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Any work done after Veterans Day will be done from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

An investigation determined that while traveling eastbound on the entrance ramp, the truck's hydraulic hoist hit the underside of the bridge, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police. No injuries were reported from the crash, but the driver was charged with with failure to pay full time and attention.
