Rehab 2 Perform Reston Celebrates Grand Opening With Ribbon Cutting
Rehab 2 Perform's new Reston location offers physical therapy, sports rehab, concussion care, pelvic health and peripartum care.

RESTON, VA — Josh Funk’s own bad experience as a college athlete recovering from an injury him to launch their own rehab business 10 years ago.
“Rehab 2 Perform has been in existence for a little over a decade, which is really cool, because an idea that I had in college became something that was able to actually sustain over time and turn into, at this point, an 11-location company.”
As a member of The Ohio State University lacrosse team with R2P's chief of operations Matt Cornell, Funk suffered an injury that required a period of rehabilitation. While he received excellent care and support from the people and facilities at Ohio State, that was not the case when he returned home and tried to continue rehab.

“I became what we want to avoid in healthcare, which is churn,” he said. ”We want to avoid people churning out and ideally not having ideal outcomes.”
That philosophy became an idea, which allowed Funk, Cornell and the rest of the R2P team to expand beyond the company’s original location in Frederick, Maryland to 10 other facilities across the DMV, including its newest cent in Reston.

One of the significant changes in healthcare recently is that physical therapy has shifted more to direct access service. As such, 80-85 percent of the people who come to R2P for PT do so without a doctor’s referral, according to Funk.
“We do physical therapy, sports rehab, concussion care, pelvic health and peripartum care,” he said. “You might think of PT, and you might think of feeling better. ‘I'm going somewhere if I have pain.’ We would argue that that's part of the equation. It's very, very important that not only do we do things to address discomfort, but we put you in a position where you do reduce your risk of re-injury."
On Friday afternoon, the R2P team celebrated their shared success by taking part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Reston center. They were joined by family, friends and other business leaders from Reston.
“It's always exciting to see and celebrate a brand new business coming into Reston,” said Charles Kapur, president and CEO of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce. “It speaks to the vibrancy of the business community and the opportunities and the growth here in the greater western region”
Even though R2P's rehab center at 11507 Sunset Hills Road in Reston opened on Oct. 21, 2024, Funk and his team have already been active in the local business community, according to Kapur.
“From day one, the community has responded so positively by supporting them, and they're providing a huge service,” he said. “Our community needs top quality health services, and Rehab 2 Perform is a fantastic member of our dynamic health services industry here in Reston."
