Reston Star Athlete: James Never Lets His Prosthesis Slow Him Down
Certified prosthetist Benjamin Koch says this Reston sophomore has never blamed his prosthesis or limb difference for anything.
RESTON, VA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.
This submission comes from Benjamin Koch, CP who nominated James, who is a sophomore from Reston and an amputee. Koch is a prosthetist, who made legs to help James participate in sports.

James is an amazing human being that had an amputation when he was 11 months old. It has never stopped him and he’s always seen himself as just like everyone else. He’s an incredible athlete and there’s never been a day that he has blamed his prosthesis or limb difference for anything. He runs with the big dogs and is always in good spirits.

He has never backed down from a challenge — his baseline is a challenge, so to him challenges are normal things to overcome everyday.
