Restonians Remain Active Supporting Kickstarter Campaigns

Two campaigns based out of Reston have garnered more than $120,000 combined in the last month alone.

Who knew Restonians were so passionate about robotics?

Perhaps it’s their passion for supporting local academia that attracted more than 300 of them to donate money to a Kickstarter campaign supporting an emerging robotics teaching tool.

GoBox, “a fun and easy way to learn programming through a build-your-own robot kit with monthly robotics missions,” according to its Kickstarter page, has already raised more than $100,000 toward making coding fun for current students.

The page notes that teaching kids coding has become a point of emphasis for more and more parents as we venture deeper into the 21st century, and promises these robotics kits will be as instructional as they will be fun.

Parents and other community members seem to have bought in, more than tripling the $30,000 goal set on the Kickstarter page with 11 days still left to donate.

Perhaps it’s just a passion for giving back to the community that has inspired Restonians, as the GoBox campaign is far from the only successful Kickstarter project ongoing in town.

Jason and Melissa Romano, co-owners of the Lake Anne Brew House, also created a Kickstarter page to support their brewery and fund new state-of-the-art brewing equipment.

The Romanos claim the Brew House, the first brewery and taproom based in Reston, has already purchased a lake-front space in the Lake Anne Village Center, and already have the financing and permits required to open shop. They are hoping to upgrade their brewing equipment so as to further elevate the quality of their beers, and have rallied quite a bit of support from the community’s beer drinkers.

After setting an initial goal of $15,000, the Romanos were stunned to see that goal exceeded in just one week. The Brew House has now garnered more than $30,000 from more than 100 backers, and there are still five more days to donate.
