Tephra ICA Arts Festival Takes Over Reston Town Center This Weekend

RESTON, VA — The Tephra ICA Arts Festival (formerly titled the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival) will take place May 20 and 21 at Reston Town Center. More than 200 contemporary artists and artisans from across the country will share original handmade artwork with festival audiences.

Now in its 32nd year, the festival has grown to attract tens of thousands of people to the unique, outdoor environment of Reston Town Center, a news release said. The festival includes one-on-one experiences, performances, and special events.

The festival will be held rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The event is free and open to the public.

During the Festival, Baltimore-based interdisciplinary artist Hoesy Corona will present Hacia la Vida, a site-specific performance that explores migration and displacement caused by climate change. Performers will move through the festival streets in sculptural costumes created by the artist that simultaneously make their bodies anonymous and hyper visible, a news release said. Using the archetype of the traveler and the anthropomorphic representation of mother nature, this performance humanizes the figure of the immigrant and celebrates the power and beauty of nature.

The performance is presented by Reston Community Center.

Dozens of artists will be at the festival with works in ceramics, digital and multimedia art/drawing/mixed media2D, glass, jewelry, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture/mixed media 3D/metal, textiles and wood

Garage parking is free during the Festival weekend, including Friday, May 20. For public transportation, take the Metro Silver Line to Reston Town Center Station.
