Virginia Weather Forecast: Lingering Winds, Fall Temps This Week

STERLING, VA — A sunny, cool Sunday got an extra shot of wind. Trees will stop swaying in a few days, but the cool temperatures will be around all week.

Overnight lows on Sunday could get down into the 40s — the first time this season, according to the National Weather Service. Overnight lows stay cool Monday and Tuesday, too.

Columbus Day will be cool and blustery, with winds up to 14 mph and gusts as high as 22 mph. Winds decrease on Tuesday, but there's just one day this week when temperatures may reach 70 degrees: Thursday.

The weekend rolls back to the low 60s, with partly sunny skies. Temperatures slightly above average should return next week.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 62.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 62.
