Flying Squirrels ends negotiations with VCU over CarMax Park (wtvr.com) — Richmond’s new CarMax Park is still on track for the Flying Squirrels’ April 7 home opener, but VCU baseball will no longer join them there for 2026 games. Instead, VCU will keep playing at the Diamond for now, while the city, VCU, and the Squirrels sort out stadium ownership and long-term plans.
   

2. Sickle cell advocates push for Virginia legislation after tragic loss: 'She touched so many lives' (wtvr.com) — Richmond is the backdrop as Virginia advocates and lawmakers push new sickle cell legislation and funding ahead of next week’s General Assembly session. A delegate who recently lost her daughter to the disease is leading efforts to expand access to specialized care, improve doctor training, and add protections for students and better cancer screening statewide.

Childcare access emerges as top issue for Virginia families and employers (wdbj7.com) — Childcare access is emerging as a major workforce and family challenge in Virginia, with new survey data released from organizations based in Richmond highlighting widespread shortages and high costs. Employers across the state report workers missing shifts, cutting hours, or quitting because they can’t find or afford reliable care. Business groups and state partners are now exploring cost-sharing and funding solutions.
   

4. Goochland deputy wins state award for community service, mentorship (wtvr.com) — A Goochland County school resource officer has been honored with Virginia’s Mike Walter Memorial Officer of the Year Award, named for a trooper killed in Richmond’s Mosby Court. Sgt. Ryan Leabough is celebrated for mentoring youth through sports and law enforcement, echoing Walter’s legacy of community coaching and leadership that resonates across the greater Richmond region.
