HOLIDAY GIVING: Bell ringers seek final donations for Salvation Army programs (wdbj7.com) — Salvation Army leaders in Roanoke say their Red Kettle Campaign has only reached about 60% of its $185,000 goal, and they’re asking valley residents for last-minute help. Donations at kettles around the Roanoke Valley fund domestic violence services, children’s programs, and holiday support that help local families regain stability.
   

2. Roanoke plans ordinance to limit vape shops (wdbj7.com) — Roanoke city officials are drafting a zoning ordinance that would sharply limit where new vape shops can open, especially near schools, churches, parks, and existing vape stores. The proposal, championed by Council Member Phazhon Nash, responds to concerns about youth access to vaping products and would boost code enforcement, while leaving current vape shops in place as council considers adoption in April.
   

3. Roanoke City Council announces 2025 Citizen of the Year (wsls.com) — Roanoke City Council has named emergency physician Dr. Robert Brown the 2025 Citizen of the Year for his frontline medical work and deep service to underserved neighbors. From volunteering weekly at Bradley Free Clinic to mentoring future doctors and partnering with local nonprofits, his efforts focus squarely on improving health and opportunity for Roanoke residents.
   

4. Missing Man Last Seen In Herndon May Be In Roanoke Area: Police (patch.com) — Police say a 79-year-old man missing from Herndon may now be in the Roanoke area, possibly near Troutville, and they’re asking for the public’s help. Leonard Hugh Thompson is considered endangered due to health and safety concerns. Residents are urged to watch for him and report any sightings to Herndon police or Virginia State Police.
   

5. Hermitage Roanoke Love Sign restored by community, students after storm damage (wsls.com) — Roanoke residents and local students have restored the beloved LOVE sign at Hermitage Roanoke after storm damage, turning a setback into a community project. Burton Center for Arts and Technology students rebuilt key pieces, and a ribbon-cutting with Roanoke Chamber leaders celebrated the sign’s return as a symbol of care and togetherness.
