Absentee Voting to Open for Eligible Alexandria Voters
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Absentee voting for the Nov. 8 general election begins on Friday, Sept. 23. Many Alexandria voters are eligible to vote absentee, for example, if they are away for personal business, work, vacation, active military service or at school; working and commuting for 11 or more hours between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day; taking into account those days when traffic is heavy or the weather is bad and it takes longer than usual to get to and from work; physically unable to go to the polls because of an illness or disability; a caregiver for a confined family member or a “first responder” (firefighter, law enforcement, emergency medical technician, search and rescue).

The deadline for voting absentee in person is Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. In-person absentee voting hours and locations are as follows:

Open for absentee voting on Friday, Sept. 23 Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Saturday, Sept. 24 and Monday, Oct. 10. Extended evening hours are Thursday, Oct. 27 and Friday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 31 through Thursday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Opens for absentee voting on Thursday, Oct. 27 Friday, Oct. 28 and Friday, Nov. 4 from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 31 through Thursday, Nov. 3 as well as Thursday, Oct. 27 from noon to 8 p.m.
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, Nov. 1. Applications must be received in the Voter Registration Office by 5 p.m. on this day.
Voters may submit absentee ballot applications online. They may also get a paper application through the city website or by contacting the Alexandria Voter Registration Office at (703) 746-4050.
These absentee ballots must be received by the Voter Registration Office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Ballots may be returned by mail or delivered personally by the voter to the Voter Registration Office located at 132 N. Royal St.
In Alexandria, the Nov. 8 ballot includes U.S. president and vice president, U.S. House of Representatives and two proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.
The voter registration deadline for this election is Oct. 17. You may submit or update your registrationinformation online. Any eligible citizen who will be 18 years old by Nov. 8 eligible to register and vote in this election.
