Alexandria Library will recognize Constitution Week 2021 with a variety of events for adults and kids. Constitution and Citizenship Day is celebrated on September 17th, and launches Constitution Week which runs through September 23rd. Constitution and Citizenship Day and the subsequent Constitution Week commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution and recognizes all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens. On September 21st at 7:00 PM, Dr. Rebecca Brannon joins us virtually to talk about the people who were loyal to the Crown during the American Revolution. Not everyone supported the Declaration of Independence, and not everyone living in the colonies wanted to fight a revolution. On September 30th at 7:00 PM, Philip J. Hirschkop will join us to discuss his life and career. Hirschkop is a local Virginian lawyer who is perhaps best known for his work on the landmark Civil Rights case Loving v. Virginia. That case is only one of many in Hirschkop’s long and prolific career. Join us as we interview Hirschkop live via Zoom about his life and work.
