Assistance League Book Fair Provides Students A Wide Choice Of Books
Elementary Students Thrilled To Choose A Book To Keep
Members of Assistance League of Northern Virginia recently spent a day at a Fairfax County elementary school where it held a book fair so that every student received a brand-new book to take home. These “Build-A-Child’s Library” events are great fun for Assistance League members who help the children with their selections because they can witness how excited, happy, and grateful the students are to have a book to keep. More than 600 students, from Pre-K to 6th graders, chose books on topics that interested them. Members stamped each book with “This Book Belongs To’ and asked the students to sign their names. They also received an Assistance League bookmark. Some eager students began reading their books immediately while waiting for the rest of their class to make their selections.
The book selections and purchases for the book fairs are guided by an expert at Scholastic. Also, a grant from Friends of the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library helped the nonprofit purchase books for this event.
The students were exuberantly grateful to receive new books and their teachers were also delighted, knowing all their students had chosen book titles that interested them. Those outcomes made this event doubly satisfying for Assistance League members. Join the organization and join the fun!
