Benchmark "Topping Out" Ceremony Celebrates ‘West Alex' Milestone

Benchmark at Alexandria, an assisted living and Mind & Memory Care community, that will be part of the highly anticipated lifestyle destination ‘West Alex,’ has reached a significant milestone. On Friday, DAVIS Construction reached the tenth floor of the building, finishing its superstructure, and a “Topping Out” ceremony was held. The ceremony is a construction tradition, typically marking the building’s initial introduction to the public.

DAVIS Construction thanked the large construction team for their hard work and treated them to lunch to celebrate the achievement.

“The progress we’ve all made together over these past seven months towards our first assisted living community in the greater Washington, D.C. area has been significant, and it shows,” said Eric Gardner, vice president of development for Benchmark Senior Living. “We’re excited to bring this project to fruition, provide much needed housing for seniors, and deliver a first class senior living community in Alexandria.”

Benchmark at Alexandria will feature 89 assisted living and 26 memory care apartments in various floor plans offering 24/7, personalized care for those who need it. Spacious common areas with hospitality-rich amenities, including a club room, casual bistro, wine tasting suite, penthouse level café and rooftop deck will feature social gatherings, educational events and other programs designed around residents’ interests. A wellness center will be home to on-site healthcare services, such as physician visits.

Residents and their families will also enjoy the ease of chef-prepared, gourmet meals served in multiple dining venues, housekeeping and linen service and scheduled transportation to appointments.

In addition to Benchmark at Alexandria, the lively West Alex mixed-use development features 100,000 square feet of retail space. A Harris Teeter grocery store and Silver Diner are just steps away, so residents will have ample opportunities to walk, shop, dine and relax just outside their door.
