City Academy, Waterfront Boat Tour, Tech Zoo Tuesday and a Crash-Landing Behind Enemy Lines

What's going on in and around the West End Aug. 13.

It's Tuesday and there's a full line-up of activities and things to enjoy in and around the West End.

The Alexandria City Academy is accepting applications until Aug. 16 for its fall session beginning Sept. 12. The 9-week program provides residents with the opportunity to learn about city government by experiencing activities, learning about issues and attending government functions. Submit your application online.

Tech Zoo Tuesday is happening at Beatley Central Library when you can learn about the latest e-reading devices or bring your own equipment for hands-on help. Located near the information desk, 5005 Duke St. from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tag along with the Waterfront Commission as it takes a DC waterfront boat tour on Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The group plans to set sail from the City Marina at the foot of Cameron Street. Free and anyone may attend.

Music on the Mall happens Tuesdays at noon through Aug. 29. Today, listen to Mary Alouette, a Washington, DC native heavily influenced by guitarist Django Reinhardt. All concerts in this series are held at 7th and Jefferson Drive at the National Mall in Washington, DC.

Learn about a secret rescue – the untold story of American nurses and medics who crash-landed behind Nazi lines in November 1943. Author Cate Lineberry discusses her book on the subject and signs books as well. The event is at noon, it’s free and no registration is required at the Spy Museum, 800  F St., NW, Washington, DC.
