Elementary Students' Families Received Grocery Gift Cards in December
Gift Cards from Assistance League Brightened the Holidays for Local Families

Assistance League of Northern Virginia did not distribute its monthly Weekend Food for Kids food bags in December because schools were not in session during the latter part of the month and school administrators could not provide the weekly food bags to students then. Instead, the nonprofit delivered to families at the seven schools it serves 496 $25 grocery gift cards, hoping that the cards would help brighten their holidays.
Counselors who distributed the cards reported that the parents were very grateful to have the additional funds for their holiday celebrations, and that report brightened the holidays for Assistance League’s members, too.
