Suspect Located In Alleged Hammer Attacks In Alexandria: Police

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police have identified a suspect in an alleged attack inside a store in the West End Tuesday.

Police say the incident happened around 10:48 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of North Beauregard Street. Officers responded after a man entered a convenience store and assaulted a customer with a handheld blunt object. Police scanner information indicated the suspect attacked with a hammer and gave himself self-inflicted injuries.

The suspect fled the store and was later found at a nearby apartment complex with self-inflected head wounds. He is being treated for injuries and receiving a mental health evaluation at the hospital.

The person who was allegedly attacked, a 56-year-old man, has serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A second person, a 19-year-old woman, was not physically attacked by the suspect but received non-life-threatening injuries from the incident.

No charges have been announced, and the suspect's identity was not released. The incident remains under investigation.
